Introduction
Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c releases regular Release Update (RU) patches that bundle bug fixes and plugin updates for the Oracle Management Service (OMS). This article walks through applying RU patch 13.5.0.27 (37784425) to an OEM 13c OMS running on Linux, from prerequisite checks through post-patch verification.
What Is OMSPatcher and Why It Matters
OMSPatcher is Oracle's patching utility for the OMS and its repository schema in EM Cloud Control — it plays the same role for OMS that OPatch plays for a standard Oracle Database Home. Unlike OPatch, OMSPatcher also handles registering plugin metadata and repository (MRS) artifacts, which is why the apply step later in this guide does more than just replace binaries.
Prerequisites
Before scheduling this patch, confirm the following. Missing any of these will either fail the prerequisite check or leave you without a way back if something goes wrong mid-patch.
- A maintenance window of at least 120 minutes at the OEM end, since the OMS will be unavailable during the apply.
- A minimum of 10GB free in the
OMS_HOMEmount point, plus an additional 25GB for the patch download and the pre-patch binary backup. - The repository database must already be on RU
19.12.0.0.0or later — the patch prerequisite check will fail on an older repository. - The OMS WebLogic admin server URL, the WebLogic admin password, and the repository database
SYSpassword, sinceOMSPatcherprompts for all three during both the analyze and apply steps. - Download the RU patch and the matching
OMSPatcherutility from My Oracle Support before starting, since the patch ReadMe requires a specific minimumOMSPatcherversion (covered in Step 1 below).

Applying the Patch Step by Step
Step 1. Update OMSPatcher to the Required Version
The patch ReadMe for 37784425 requires OMSPatcher version 13.9.5.26.0 or later — if you skip this, the apply step in Step 8 will reject the patch during its own prerequisite check. Rename the existing OMSPatcher directory rather than deleting it, so you have a fallback copy if the new version has an issue.

Step 2. Run the Prechecks
Before touching anything, confirm both the OMS and the agent are healthy and note which patches are already installed, so you have a clean baseline to compare against after patching. Run this before the maintenance window starts, not during it — if either service is already unhealthy, you want to know before you begin the downtime clock.

Both status checks returning Up/Running and Ready confirm the OMS and agent are healthy before you start. The lspatches listing here is your "before" snapshot — keep it around so you can compare it against the post-patch listing in Step 10 to confirm 37784425 actually got applied.
Step 3. Confirm the Version in the OEM Console
The CLI checks above only reflect what OMSPatcher's own inventory sees. Cross-checking the version through the console UI matters because that's the view any other admin on the team will use to confirm the patch level day to day — go to SYSMAN → About Enterprise Manager.
This screen displays the current version before any patch has been applied — note it down so you have something to compare against once the patch is in.
Step 4. Unzip the RU Patch
Each numbered subdirectory inside the extracted patch zip corresponds to an individual sub-patch that OMSPatcher will evaluate and apply on its own, alongside supporting files like bundle.xml and postop_apply.sql that drive the automation.

Step 5. Analyze the Patch Before Applying
The -analyze flag runs every prerequisite check that the real apply would run, but makes no changes — it's the safest way to surface blocking issues while you're still outside the maintenance window. Set ORACLE_HOME to the OMS home first, since OMSPatcher reads it to locate the inventory.

Note: the JDBC patch warning is informational, not blocking — it recommends a newer JDBC driver patch but doesn't stop 37784425 from applying cleanly. You can apply the JDBC patch separately beforehand if you prefer, but it isn't required for this RU to succeed.
Step 6. Stop the OMS
OMSPatcher needs the OMS fully down before it touches the binaries, since applying patches to a running Java process risks a corrupted deployment.

Step 7. Back Up the OMS Home
Take a full tar backup of OMS_HOME before applying anything. OMSPatcher's own rollback doesn't always cleanly reverse every artifact registration, so a filesystem-level backup is your real safety net if the patch needs to be backed out.

Step 8. Apply the RU Patch
Running omspatcher apply without -analyze executes for real: it stops the WebLogic admin server, applies each sub-patch's binaries, runs the associated SQL against the repository, registers the MRS (Management Repository Store) artifacts the plugins need, and restarts the admin server. Confirm the prompt with y once you're ready to proceed.

Even though apply restarts the OMS as its last step, it's worth cycling it manually once more and re-running the status check, so you're confirming a clean start rather than trusting the patcher's own restart.
